drivebuddyAI’s intelligent driver assistant device DRISHTI or Driver Safety Harness with Telematics & Intelligence is changing the way commercial fleets run, delivering unmatched efficiency & road safety.
There is a new paradigm in the automotive industry – CASE, which stands for Connected Autonomous Shared and Electric. Today, there are two automotive tech revolutions from opposite ends of the spectrum coalescing together. One which started a decade ago with telematics & ADAS, and the other, autonomous vehicles which started around 2003-04. The emergence of GPS, followed by OBD – II devices, and dash cams led to the creation and adoption of vision-based telematics. Visual Telematics is a pre-cursor to ADAS & semi-autonomous systems with an L2 level of autonomy.
While autonomy is the future of mobility, telematics is the present, and ADAS is the step towards the future.
Important industry verticals like fleet management & insurance are engaged in the evolving mobility ecosystem by adapting their operations to new technologies. Capabilities like selecting a driver, monitoring the driving, understanding driving behavior, and incentivizing drivers have enabled insurers to use vehicle data to better assess risk and deliver more accurate underwriting. Commercial vehicles running eighteen hours a day through cities, traffic, weather and lighting conditions, create uncertain driving behavior, which can lead to loss of goods, assets, and lives. The number of incidents for a single vehicle in a year might be low but the impact in terms of cost, time, and resources is high.
What can a business do to mitigate such risks and mitigate loss?
Enter Artificial Intelligence
The simplest option available right now in the market is a dash camera that can record the video both in and outside of a vehicle’s cabin. Many of the dash camera products claim to be intelligent ADAS cameras with multiple safety features. They also describe themselves as AI, computer vision & machine learning driven platforms aimed at providing safety to the vehicle.
But do these dash cams really provide these advanced safety features? What exactly is an AI dashcam? What features do they provide? And how they are different from the normal dash cam? Let’s get to know.
DRISHTI The Indian word drishti means vision; sighting something; observing & analyzing; and then arriving at a decision. Driving is a skill and to make driving safer, assistance must be adapted to diverse drivers and their skillsets. drivbuddyAI’s pioneering hardware platform, DRISHTI, is designed on the above defined tenets.
A dual-camera device, powered by AI & computer vision observes driving, analyzes the situation, and then assists in critical situations to reduce the risk of an accident. And it goes further, as DRISHTI is built to predict a critical situation, and assist the driver in avoiding the risk entirely.
DRISHTI is a hardware platform with two cameras, where one looks at the road, and the other looks inside the cabin of the vehicle to continuously monitor the driving and the driver. The device also possesses the GNSS & IMU sensors to get location & orientation details of the vehicular movement. The video data utilizes the GNSS data to analyze every frame from the camera sensor. And checks for the criticality of a situation to alert the driver for controlling the vehicle.
Intelligence is built into the device itself making it the fastest way of avoiding any critical event while driving. Compared to the typical processes of fleet management, where the fleet owner gets a notification about some event, who then calls the driver to alerts him, DRISHTI can analyze, access, and alert the driver immediately, on its own.
The dual cameras record every millisecond level detail of driving with night vision and enhanced image capture capabilities which work in any & all lighting conditions. The device has an inbuilt GPU & CPU to process the video data coming from the dual cameras.
The GNSS module functions with high accuracy for locating a vehicle within a fraction of movement, along with the orientation details of the vehicle using the IMU module.
And, most importantly the device can talk to the driver, from the moment vehicle is started. It acts as if there is a buddy seated with the driver, who is looking at the road at all times, and helping the driver reach safely to the destination.
It is just an IoT device as it is also connected to the cloud server to synchronize all the data recorded, which consists of every minute of video, and GNSS data of location, speed, and orientation. This valuable driving data is consistently being monitored and analyzed on the cloud for various use cases of fleet & driver management related to safety and best utilization of the resources by the drivers.
Safe, Smart, & Secure
drivebuddyAI has built DRISHTI to help drivers avoid collisions and make their journeys safer by helping them improve their driving on the go. The device enables better driving by pointing out specific gaps, and learned behaviors in individual driving styles. Our customers benefit by gaining insights from real-life driving data, which our team of AI engineers and data scientists build upon to develop even more sophisticated, and robust algorithms. drivebuddyAI delivers intelligent capabilities through edge-to-cloud AI capabilities, and has been expanding risk assessment to contextually infuse more data points, including all the objects on the road. The goal is to advance AI models to draw predictions about the mobility environment itself and reduce risks of the future.
